Speeding driver taken to jail

From Local Sources

JASPER — Police took a Perry County motorist to jail after a Sunday evening traffic stop.

The Jasper Police Department stopped a Mercury Cougar driven by Matthew E. Cronin, 31, Tell City, at 6 p.m. after clocking it traveling 51 mph in the 35 mph zone on South Newton Street south of Brucke Strasse.

Police allege Cronin initially provided an officer with a false name and date of birth because his driver’s license was suspended. During a search of the vehicle, police report locating a scale with suspected drug residue on it.

Authorities booked Cronin into the Dubois County Security Center at 8:18 p.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of driving while suspended (prior), false informing and possession of paraphernalia.
