JASPER — A speeding driver faces preliminary charges of obstruction and impaired driving after a Monday traffic stop.
A Jasper Police Department officer stopped a southbound 2020 Nissan passenger car at 8:57 a.m. on Meridian Road north of Second Avenue for traveling at 53 mph in the 35 mph zone.
Police said the driver, Cesar A. Santamaria, 40, 3011 Westwood Boulevard, Jasper, was determined to have been drinking.
Santamaria’s blood alcohol content was reported to have tested .09% on a portable breath test but police said he refused a chemical test. Police sought and obtained a warrant for samples but authorities said Santamaria still refused.
Authorities booked Santamaria into the Dubois County Security Center at 11:57 a.m. on preliminary charges that included Level 6 felony counts of obstruction of justice and operating while intoxicated (prior).
