KYANA — A speeding stop Sunday afternoon east of Kyana resulted in the motorist’s arrest for impaired driving.
An Indiana State Police trooper stopped an eastbound Oldsmobile 98 driven by William J. Beier, 59, 854 W. 1100S, Ferdinand, at 4 p.m. after clocking the car traveling at 71 mph in the 55 mph zone.
The trooper began an impaired driving investigation after smelling an odor commonly associated with alcoholic beverages coming from the vehicle.
Police said Beier’s blood alcohol content later tested .14% at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Authorities booked Beier into the Dubois County Security Center at 6:17 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated. The preliminary charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior OWI conviction within the last five years.
Beier posted bond early today.
