Speeder accused of impaired driving

HUNTINGBURG — Police accused a woman of impaired driving early today after a traffic stop.

A Huntingburg Police Department officer stopped a southbound 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck at 1:15 a.m. after clocking it at 50 mph in the 30 mph zone of Main Street at 10th Street. The officer also said the vehicle was observed crossing the centerline.

Police allege the driver, Melodie D. Schmitt, 38, 416 E. Fourth Ave., Huntingburg, showed signs of impairment and had a blood alcohol content that tested .209% in a certified test at the Huntingburg Police Station.

Authorities booked Schmitt into the Dubois County Security Center at 3:28 a.m. today on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated.
