Speed, loose gravel factor into mishap

From Local Sources

JASPER — Loose gravel in the roadway and a driver’s speed were reportedly factors in a Tuesday mishap along a county road between Jasper and Huntingburg.

Trey A. Mundy, 18, Jasper, was northbound on Meridian Road in a 2000 Subaru when the 9:17 a.m. accident occurred north of County Road 130W, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy said Mundy’s vehicle ran off the east side of the roadway and stopped in a ditch. He was able to exit the ditch and drive about 100 feet to the south. When deputies arrived on the scene, they noted loose gravel on the roadway. Mundy also reportedly stated he was moving at a high rate of speed, according to the sheriff’s department.

Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
