SOS sets program on special needs trusts

Supporting Our Special Kids Parent Network is presenting “Special Needs Trusts, Guardianships and Achieving a Better Life Experience Accounts: What Parents Need to Know” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Redemption Christian Church, 1450 Energy Drive, Jasper. Attendees are asked to look for a greeter to direct them to the second-floor meeting room. Doors are open until 6:30 p.m; after that time, call 812-631-3654.

Guest speaker is John Collins, attorney-at-law with Ziemer, Stayman, Weitzel and Shoulders, LLP.

Collins will discuss important legal concerns under Indiana and federal law for parents of disabled children, including options for leaving an inheritance to a disabled child; the establishment and operation of “self-settled” and “third-party” special needs trusts; guardianships for disabled adult children, and what parents need to know about ABLE accounts.
