Sorority awards two scholarships
July 21, 2020The Iota Lambda Chapter of Psi Iota Xi awarded two scholarships on July 17 to Forest Park seniors Lauren Jahn and Mallory Spayd.

Jahn is the daughter of Jennifer and Jeffrey Jahn of Ferdinand. Her Psi Ote scholarship is given in memory of the late Carol Gaesser, a Southeast Dubois School Corporation educator and a Psi Ote member.
She participated in Students Against Destructive Decisions and Rangers for Christ. She was a four-year member of the track and soccer teams, lettering in both sports. Jahn was named the Most Valuable Sprinter in 2019.
She was on the Christ the King Winter Mission Planning Committee and attended the trips in 2017 and 2018. Jahn also went on Catholic Heart Work Camp mission trips in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She volunteered at Heimatfest and road cleanup. She is employed at Hodgini’s and does elder care.
Jahn will major early childhood education/special education at the University of Southern Indiana.

Spayd, daughter of Brenda Spayd and Scott Spayd of Ferdinand, was named valedictorian. She was involved in the Forest Park Dance Team, National Honor Society, Key Club, Beta Club, SADD and Rangers for Christ.
She was a six-year member of Forest Park’s State Championship Dance Team. She also earned Beta Club recognition, was published in Autumn Voices, and has had her artwork displayed at Krempp Gallery.
She is an accomplished entrepreneur designing, producing and marketing her own line of handmade bags and wallets on a website she developed. She also is the guest services coordinator at Lake Rudolph.
Spayd will be attending Indiana University Kelley School of Business and will major in marketing and graphic design.
