In that same class, North Posey Junior High School of Poseyville was named runner-up; South Knox Middle/High School of Vincennes took third place; and other finalists were Eastern Middle School of Greentown and Sarah Scott Middle School of Terre Haute.

Spellers on the Southridge team were: Abi Byrd, Erika Meece, Rebecca Snider, Emileigh Shaw, Ruthie Sherer, Maddox Vernon, Annika Beard, Nicole Fant, Michael Lau, Madilyn Wright, Angel Dubon, Broghan Fuhs, Izzy Leibering and Addison Weaver.

The team competed at the local level at Jasper Middle School on Nov. 5, winning first place in their division and first place out of all the teams at the event. That placing earned them a trip to the state competition.
