Smell of marijuana on breath leads to arrest

From Local Sources

JASPER — The smell of marijuana on a man’s breath eventually led to his arrest Sunday afternoon.

Jasper Police Department officers were attempting to locate a man on an active theft warrant when they went to a Sunset Drive residence at 1330.

The wanted individual, Eric M.W. McNabb, 22, was found in the basement of the 2312 Sunset Drive residence, as was Jordan T. Earls, 31, 3595 N. Pike County Road 1000E, Otwell.

While conducting a pat-down of Earls, police said, a strong smell of raw, unburnt marijuana was emitting from his breath and officers allegedly observed marijuana residue in Earls’ mouth.

When told to spit out the substance, police said, Earls pulled away from one officer and was detained by two others. Police allege Earls refused to spit out the substance that he eventually swallowed.

After receiving medical clearance at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, Earls was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:26 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of obstruction of justice and preliminary misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement and false informing.

Authorities booked McNabb into the security center at 1:34 p.m. on the active theft warrant out of Dubois Superior Court.
