Sinkhole opens on SR 164 near JasperMay 4, 2020
From Local Sources
JASPER — An emergency road closure has been instituted on State Road 164, two miles east of Jasper, after a large sinkhole developed in the highway, just east of Greener Road.
The Indiana Department of Transportation closed the highway Sunday between Third Avenue and State Road 545. Crews are scheduled to work today to replace a pipe failure and expect to be finished by late afternoon, depending on weather conditions.
Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure, according to INDOT. The official state detour uses State Road 545, State Road 56 and U.S. 231.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office says a local detour follows County Road 400E to Schnellville Road, Jasper-Dubois Road and Meridian Road.
INDOT urges motorists to slow down and stay alert near the work zone.
