Showcase features singers-songwriters

FERDINAND — The public is invited to enjoy some of the region’s singers-songwriters who will share their original works from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, in the 70-seat theatre of St. Benedict’s Brew Works.

The fifth-annual Ferdinand Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Showcase is also a benefit concert to help keep the festival free. Admission at the door will be $10 for adults, $5 for those under 18. Reservations can be made by calling or texting 812-631-2856.

There were 17 entries in this year’s competition. The eight showcase artists selected are listed in alphabetical order. They are the Burch Brothers with Eddie Burch of Dubois and Rick Burch of Louisville; The Burma Shaver(s) with Steve Fowler of Evansville and Jerry Wilson of Ashley, Illinois; Katie Didit (Kaitlyn Caudill) of Louisville; Maris Fish of Bloomington; Laura Rose and the Briars with Laura Rose D’Alto, Amelia Madi and Emily Durchholz of Evansville; Jacob McDaniel of New Salisbury; and Redwood Preservation Society with Jennifer Vela, David Warren and Michael Flake of Evansville and Clayton N. Schroeder of Bloomington.

The performers also will be featured at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, on the NextEra Energy Main Stage in 18th Street Park to kick off the 10th annual Ferdinand Folk Festival. They also will have the option of performing a set on the Kyana Woodstock Market Stage during the afternoon of the festival. The artists may sell CDs and merchandise at both events.

At the Aug. 11 showcase, St. Benedict’s Brew Works will be open from noon to 8 p.m. and will serve craft beer and craft root beer, handmade pizza, wings, soft pretzels, veggie burgers, and more.

Co-presenting sponsors of the festival are Best Home Furnishings and MasterBrand Cabinets. The Main Stage sponsor is NextEra Energy Resources. The Market Stage is sponsored by Kyana Woodstock.
