JASPER — Scam callers representing themselves as sheriff’s deputies are making the rounds.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office reports being made aware that residents are getting scam phone calls from a Petersburg cellphone number: 812-789-4001.
The caller has identified themselves as a sheriff’s office investigator and has wanted the potential victims to pay for a warrant or fine.
Make no mistake, the sheriff’s office says, it is a scam.
As always, the sheriff’s office states, never give out any personal information over the phone or pay money to anyone who contacts you via telephone.
