Sherer named Youth of the Month

HUNTINGBURG — Evalyn Sherer, 18, daughter of Drs. Ryan and Rachelle Sherer, is the Huntingburg Optimist Youth of the Month for January.

While in high school, Sherer was a member of the marching band, the school musicals, Spanish Club, Spell Bowl team, the Academic Bowl team, National Honor Society and student council. In addition, she was a member of the Freshman Mentors and the Natural Helpers.

She also has been a member of both the tennis and the swimming and diving team all four years of high school and earned the leadership award in tennis.

As a junior, she was named a Rising Star of Indiana from the Southridge High School Class of 2020. She also received the academic excellence award each year for the corporation, the student of the month award in fine arts, math and science, and was the recipient of the Arion Award for band. She is a candidate for valedictorian for the Class of 2020.

Outside of school, she is a member of and program chairman for the Huntingburg Mayor’s Youth Council, assistant coach for the middle school’s boys tennis team and coach for the middle school’s diving team.

Upon graduation, Sherer plans to attend Indiana University where she will study pre-medicine.
