Sheep tour includes lunch, fellowship

The Washington County Sheep Association, in cooperation with the Indiana Sheep Association and Purdue Extension, is hosting a sheep tour at the Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center, 11367 E. Purdue Farm Road, Dubois, on Saturday, Aug. 25, beginning with a lunch and fellowship at noon and the tour starting at approximately 1 p.m.

Dr. Mike Neary, Purdue Extension sheep specialist, and Jason Tower, SIPAC superintendent, will lead the tour to discuss the newly-acquired flock of Katahdin hair sheep. Topics will include general sheep production practices, forage/grazing management, and Purdue’s plans for the future of the flock. Participants will eat lunch, and participate in education and fellowship. The tour is free and all sheep producers are encouraged to attend.

Participants should dress for the farm and weather. Wagons will be utilized during the tour to move participants from one location to the next. For further information or to make reservations, contact Purdue Extension-Washington County by Thursday, Aug. 16 at or 812-883-4601.
