Sharpshooters compete in final match

The Southern Indiana Sharpshooters, sponsored by The American Legion Post 147 of Jasper, competed in the Southern Indiana Air Rifle series final match at the Indian Creek Shooting Center in Georgetown on Feb. 1.

The series consists of six matches at varies shooting clubs. There were 45 shooting athletics from various shooting clubs in southern Indiana competing in the three positions, 3-by-10 series matches. The matches required each shooter to fire 10 record shots at three separate 10 bull targets from the prone, standing and kneeling positions at a distance of 10 meters. The maximum score is 300.

The top three shooters are Richard Block, first; Emilee Seitz, second; and Maggie Holt, third place. Emilee and is the daughter of Katrina and Mark Seitz of Velpen. She is a junior and attends the Seitz Homeschool Academy. Richard is the son of Heather and Richard Block of Versailles. He is a junior and attends South Ripley High School. Maggie is the daughter of Batesville Police Chief Stan and Jody Holt of Milan. She is a junior and is home schooled.     

The Junior Shooting Sports Program has exploded in growth in the past several years in southern Indiana with shooting clubs now established in Jasper, Seymour, Versailles, Shoals and Georgetown. Several organizations are seriously considering establishing a shooting program. The program is usually sponsored by a local American Legion Post, but can be organized and sponsored by any shooting organization or started from the ground up.
