DALE — No injuries were reported after a semi drove through the Wendy’s restaurant in Dale on Wednesday night.

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 814 N. Conner Court restaurant just off U.S. 231 at 9:56 p.m. CT, according to dispatch.

A dispatcher said the semi went in one end of the fast food restaurant and out the other.

The Wendy’s is owned by Jasper-based SERVUS! Inc. Carol Meyer, the company’s director of real estate and facilities, said the accident is still under investigation, with the company waiting to see a police report with details.

Damage to the Wendy's in Dale is shown today after a semitruck ran into the building around 10 p.m. CT Wednesday. The main restaurant entrance is located in the far right of the photo.

SERVUS! has been in contact with its insurance company, Meyer said, but all that was immediately known is that the Dale location will be closed until further notice.

“All of our employees have been assigned to other SERVUS! restaurants,” Meyer said.

Meyer indicated the restaurant was open at the time of the accident.

“We’re just lucky at this point that it wasn’t during the very busy (time) when Holiday World was open every day,” Meyer said. “That restaurant would have been packed.”

She said the company is waiting to get engineers on site to assess the damage.

Additional details were not immediately available.
