Search reveals methamphetamine, firearm

HUNTINGBURG — Police executing a search warrant Wednesday afternoon at a Huntingburg residence took a man into custody on multiple charges.

Luis A Benitez, 56, 406 S. Main St., Huntingburg, answered the door and initially came outside when officers with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Huntingburg Police Department and Jasper Police Department were executing the warrant at 1:45 p.m.

Police allege Benitez then went back inside, attempting to close and lock the door. Officers were able to enter and take Benitez into custody.

Officers report discovering methamphetamine in the residence, as well as a bolt-action rifle and drug paraphernalia that included a glass pipe, digital scale and a cut straw and foil used to introduce methamphetamine into the body.

Authorities booked Benitez into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:45 p.m. on preliminary charges that included a Level 3 felony count of dealing methamphetamine with a firearm, a Level 5 felony count of possessing methamphetamine with a firearm and misdemeanor counts of possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement during the authorized service or execution of a civil or criminal process or order of a court.
