EVANSVILLE — A scooter operator injured in a Friday morning collision with an SUV in Ferdinand remained hospitalized today in Evansville.
Steven L. Beard, 58, Ferdinand, was listed in fair condition and was stable today, according to a spokesman at St. Vincent Evansville.
Beard was injured in a crash at State Road 162 and West 23rd Street that was reported at 6:11 a.m.
According to the Ferdinand Police Department, Lauren R. Schwartz, 28, of Ferdinand was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer and traveling west from East 23rd Street through the intersection onto West 23rd Street at the time of the accident. Beard was traveling southbound on State Road 162 on a 2014 TaoTao scooter.
Schwartz told police she did not see the moped until it crashed into the passenger side of her Explorer.
Beard initially was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper before being transferred to St. Vincent Evansville. His moped was totaled in the crash.
The Ferdinand Police Department was assisted by the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a Berg’s Garage wrecker.
