Schoenbachler earns scouting awards

Boy Scout Venture Crew 181 from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg held a court of honor on July 28.

Cameron Schoenbachler, son of Sandy Kempf and the late Jeffrey Schoenbachler, was awarded scouting’s highest award, Eagle Scout, and Venture Scout’s highest award, Summit. Both were earned as a Venture Scout.

The Marine Corps League presented Schoenbachler with its Good Citizen Award for both his Eagle and Summit awards.

Schoenbachler earned Venture Scout’s now retired highest rank, the Silver Award, and was the last Scout in the nation to do so. By all accounts, Schoenbachler is the only Scout in the nation to earn all three awards as a Venture Scout. He is the ninth member of the Schoenbachler family to earn his Eagle. He is a fourth generation Scout, third generation Eagle, second generation Silver and first generation Summit. He will be a senior at Southridge High School.

Jazlyn Johnson, daughter of Mike and Angela Johnson, received Buffalo Trace Council’s 2017 Venture Leadership Award for a youth member. Linda Schroering was recognized for receiving the 2017 Venture Leadership Award for an adult member.

Venture Crew 181 is a high adventure scout group open to any youth ages 14 to 21.

The Crew meets every Monday starting at 5:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s Activity Center.
