Routine traffic stop results in arrest

JASPER — A traffic stop for a vehicle with expired registration Monday resulted in an OWI arrest.

The Jasper Police Department reports that an officer conducted a traffic stop on a tan 1997 Mercury passenger car at 3:15 p.m.

Police say that upon further investigation, field sobriety testing and a portable breath test, it was determined that the driver, Krista Schmitt, 44, Jasper, was impaired. She was transported to the city's police department for a certified breath test, which showed her blood alcohol content to be .11%.

Schmitt was arrested on charges of OWI with prior conviction, OWI endangerment and OWI. She was transported to the Dubois County Security Center and also given citations for expired registration and operating with a suspended license.
