Roger A. Schmitt, 70, of Washington, passed away at 9:06 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Roger was born February 23, 1948, in Ireland to Frank J. and Ruth A. (Lechner) Schmitt.
He graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1966 and went on to serve our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Roger owned and operated Velpen Trucking and Disposal Company for 20 years.
His hobbies included fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, spending time outdoors and going to the casino.
Roger is survived by his father, Frank Schmitt; children, Justin Bryant of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michael Schmitt of Evansville, Chris Schmitt (Sarah) of Holland, Jennifer Werner (Matt) of Ireland and Alissa Haaff (Ryan) of Ireland; sister, Mary Beth Vogler (Tom) of Ireland; brothers, Norbert Schmitt (Phyllis) of Huntingburg and Danny Schmitt (Sherry) of Velpen; and 10 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Schmitt; sister, Karen Sue Schmitt; and brother, Mark Schmitt.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, at St. Mary’s Community Center/Cafeteria in Ireland.
Memorial Contributions may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Roger Schmitt.
