Rodgers finishes fifth at state; Scott, Schroeder fall

INDIANAPOLIS — Phoenix Rodgers rounded out the top-five in the 195-pound class at the state wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The senior lost to fellow senior J.D. Farrell of Fishers in his first match on Saturday, but made his way through the consolation round. He rebounded with a win against senior Caden Friedt of Bellmont, and took down Evansville Central senior McKinley Kemper to earn fifth place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Rodgers wrapped up his senior year with a 47-3 record.

In the 120-pound bracket, senior Sam Scott of Heritage Hills bowed on in his first match, bested by Carson Eldred of Westfield, 7-3. Scott finished the season with a 44-5 record.

At 160 lbs., senior Sam Schroeder of Southridge was pinned by Elliott Rodgers of Indianapolis Cathedral in first-round competition. Schroeder finished the season at 39-7.
