ROCKPORT — A Wednesday night report of shots fired in Rockport ended with the arrest of a 19-year-old man who is accused of murdering an 18-year-old man.
The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office’s dispatch received a 911 call at 8:30 p.m. CT of shots fired in the area of Seminary and South Ninth Street in Rockport, according to Indiana State Police.
Officers from the sheriff’s office, Rockport City Police and Indiana State Police arrived on scene and discovered one subject shot. Police gave on-scene, life-saving measures to the victim until Spencer County EMS arrived on scene and took over the care of the patient.
An investigation by Indiana State Police at the Jasper Post developed probable cause to arrest Joseph A. Petry, 19, of Rockport, for the murder of Zane Lee, 18, also of Rockport, police said.
Petry is being held at the Spencer County Detention Center on an initial charge of murder.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Lee later today.
The Spencer County Coroner’s Office and Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Department also assisted.
