JASPER — A midday Sunday report of an altercation that included a city street getting blocked sent a man to jail.

Hildenbrand

The Jasper Police Department was dispatched to the area of Second Street between Clay and Newton streets at noon in reference to an altercation that had occurred.

While officers were en route, the female victim came to the police station to report the incident.

Police say an investigation determined the female victim was traveling eastbound on Second Street in her vehicle. The suspect, Richard A. Hildenbrand, 42, 4060 Wilhelm Strasse, Apt. 3, was westbound and passed by the victim.

Authorities say Hildenbrand and the victim were in a dispute over property.

Hildenbrand, after passing by the victim, allegedly did a U-turn in the roadway on Second Street, passed the victim's vehicle and cut her off. Hildenbrand reportedly parked his vehicle across Second Street, blocking both the road and the victim's vehicle.

Police say Hildenbrand exited his vehicle, pulled the victim from hers, grabbed her purse and took her cellphone.

Hildenbrand then allegedly threw the purse and belongings onto the street and left at a high rate of speed.

Witnesses stopped to assist the victim and also came to the police station to complete statements.

Police contacted Hildenbrand and advised him to come to the police station for an interview.

Authorities booked Hildenbrand into the Dubois County Security Center at 1:41 p.m. on preliminary Level 6 felony counts of domestic battery and neglect of a dependent and preliminary misdemeanor counts of criminal recklessness and disorderly conduct.
