JASPER — Authorities charged an Orange County woman with felony domestic battery last week after police were called to the report of a man and woman arguing in a store parking lot.

The Jasper Police Department was called at 2:49 a.m. Monday, July 16, to the report of a couple arguing in the parking lot of a north-side store. While en route, officers learned the man and woman had left in the black passenger car that was southbound on Newton Street.

A traffic stop was conducted after an officer observed a 2012 Hyundai with the passenger door open traveling southbound on Newton Street near Schuetter Road.

Police reported the male had a scrape to his left eye area.

After investigating, police alleged Kansas M. Porter, 20, French Lick, was responsible for the injury and the offense had been committed in the presence of a child.

Porter was jailed Monday morning and subsequently charged with a Level 6 felony count of domestic battery. She made an initial appearance in Dubois Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 17, and was released on her own recognizance until her next court appearance, which was slated for Aug. 6.
