Red Roof Inn theft report ends in arrest

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — A weekend theft allegation at the Red Roof Inn resulted in the Saturday arrest of a Huntingburg man.

The Ferdinand Police Department says Darrel R. Harris Jr., 27, 1106 N. Chestnut St., Huntingburg, was being sought by authorities who wanted to question him about a theft accusation at the Red Roof Inn in Ferdinand. It had been reported that $190 was taken from an employee’s purse, according to authorities.

When Harris was located at a Ferdinand residence where he had once resided, police said, he was reported as acting suspiciously, so much so that police believed he was a safety threat. Police say he was trying to hand a bag off to another person at the location. When police asked to see the bag’s contents, it allegedly contained a small amount of methamphetamine and a pipe among other items.

Police allege Harris also had an amount of cash on his person consistent with the amount taken from the victim at the hotel.

Authorities booked Harris into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:02 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of possession of methamphetamine and preliminary misdemeanor counts of theft and paraphernalia possession.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department assisted.

Ferdinand police say the investigation in the case is not complete and additional charges are a possibility.
