TELL CITY — Forest Park used two scores in the second half Friday night to beat Tell City 14-0 and finish the regular season with a winning record for the third time in the history of the football program.
After coming up empty in the first half, the Rangers (5-4, 3-4) were able to get some strikes on the scoreboard when sophomore quarterback Cooper Uebehlor connected with senior running back Jake Begle for a 41-yard scoring strike. Begle struck again on the Rangers' second touchdown via a four-yard rush with a little over 10 minutes left to play in the fourth quarter.
In total, the Rangers gained 199 yards of offense, converted on more than 40 percent of their third downs and forced six turnovers (four fumble recoveries, two interceptions) from the Marksmen (5-4, 3-4) on defense.
Uebehlor finished 3 for 3 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown. Senior fullback Drew Day, the Rangers' all-time career rushing leader with 1,740 yards, carried the load Friday night with 72 yards on 20 rushing attempts, while Begle finished with 43 yards on 12 runs and a score. Begle also finished with two catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.
The Rangers will face the Marksmen in a rematch when they host Tell City in Ferdinand for the first round of sectional play. The last time Forest Park faced Tell City in back-to-back weeks came in the 2010 season, when the Rangers beat the Marksmen 28-7 to end the regular season and turned around and beat them the following week in sectional 42-27.
