From Herald Staff Reports
The Herald has the lowdown on our local teams winning a sectional championship during the weekend.
Forest Park is a girls soccer sectional champion after beginning its season with many games cancelled because the whole team was in quarantine.
The Rangers (11-5, 7-3) took down Pocket Athletic Conference foe North Posey, 5-0, in the Oct. 10 championship of the South Spencer sectional. They already led, 2-0, at halftime, then added on three more goals to seal the deal.
Addie Weyer scored two goals for the Rangers, while Ali Wahl, Abbie Jahn and Leah Dilger provided the other goals. Dilger and Emma Grundhoefer each notched an assist.
Forest Park is scheduled to be back at it 10:00 a.m. Saturday to host Oldenburg Academy in the opening round of the Cedar Crest Intermediate Regional. A win in that game puts the Rangers in that evening's championship against either Trinity Lutheran or Washington Catholic.
Heritage Hills 4, Evansville Mater Dei 3, OT: The Patriots (18-1) trailed, 3-1, with 20 minutes to go, then it became rally time. Junior Hadley Lytton provided the tying goal that forced overtime. Lytton then fed fellow junior Ella Schneiders for the game-winner in the first overtime.
Either Heritage Hills or Jasper will play in the championship of the Jasper Regional Saturday night. The match between the Pats and Wildcats (7-9-1) is set for 10:00 a.m. The winner will play either Northview or Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m.
