Rain factors in parking lot fender-bender

FERDINAND — Rain factored into a Saturday afternoon mishap involving a vehicle and a concrete light pole base in a fast food restaurant’s parking lot.
The Ferdinand Police Department was called to the Wendy’s restaurant lot at 480 S. Main St. at 12:43 p.m.
Police say the mishap occurred at a time a rain storm was passing over Ferdinand.
Kathy Miller, 50, New Salisbury, who was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion, said she was unable to see a concrete light pole base near the front of the Wendy’s lot because of the downpour.
Miller said she could see an uninvolved car that was parked in the next parking space and thought she would be able to clear the pole’s base.
Police say Miller misjudged the distance and her vehicle collided with the concrete base.
Damage was estimated at $8,000. Salem Wrecker Service assisted, towing the vehicle from the scene.
Police said the use of seat belts is believed to have prevented injury.
