Rain causes cancellations, postponementsApril 18, 2019
From Herald Staff Reports
While there were plenty of local sporting events on Thursday’s schedule, 17 of them to be exact, only one ended up playing to completion last evening.
Rain forced the postponement and cancellation of several baseball games, softball games, tennis matches, golf matches and track meets.
The only local team that was able to finish their contest on Thursday night was the Northeast Dubois softball team. The Jeeps travelled to Lanesville and fought hard against a perennial softball power but it was the Eagles that prevailed as they defeated Northeast Dubois 7-6. Lanesville walked-off winners with a hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Several teams tried to get their respective games started but were unable to finish due to the wet and windy conditions. The Southridge baseball team hosted Loogootee at League Stadium but were unable to make it past the first batter as rain caused the game to be postponed until a later date. The Raider softball team had a similar fate at Perry Central as they were able to play for a few innings but were unable to get an official game in.
The other postponements on Thursday were as follows: Jasper baseball at Washington, Forest Park baseball at Boonville, Jasper softball at Tecumseh, Forest Park softball at home vs. Barr-Reeve, Heritage Hills softball at home vs. Crawford County, Northeast Dubois tennis at North Daviess, Heritage Hills tennis at Southridge, Forest Park tennis at home vs. South Spencer, Jasper track and field at Vincennes Lincoln, Heritage Hills girls track at Pike Central, Northeast Dubois and Heritage Hills boys track at Southridge and Forest Park golf at home against Wood Memorial and Perry Central.
Many of these games, matches and meets will be rescheduled but most of the final dates are still being worked out.
