LEOPOLD — It took eight games for Southridge to get its first win last year, but the Raiders only needed one game for the first win this year.

The Raiders (1-0) traveled to Perry Central Tuesday for the season opener, avenging a 43-39 loss from last season. The two teams were tied 8-8 after one quarter, but Southridge pulled away by outscoring Perry Central 20-11 in the second quarter. The duo of sophomore Myah Montgomery and freshman Marie Temple combined for 16 of Southridge's 20 second-quarter points with eight each. Montgomery had a game-high 19 points, while Temple notched 15.

Southridge relied on its outside game to help create separation by making six 3-pointers. The Raiders were 13-for-22 from the charity stripe.

They are seeking their first 2-0 start since the 2011-12 season, and host Paoli at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday for their home opener. Southridge dropped a 38-30 loss to Paoli last season.
