Pund, Murphy are Youths of the Month

LeAndra Pund, 18, daughter of Matthew and Phyllis Pund, and Devin Murphy, 17, son of Kelly and Jennifer Murphy, have been named as the Huntingburg Optimist Youths of the Month for May.   

Pund was a manager for the high school football team and the high school track and field team. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the spirit club, the high school choir and has been in the cast of each musical. She also is president of the German Club. As a senior, she was an Indiana Football Coaches Association Region 9 All Star and selected to be the manager for the 2109 Indiana Football Coaches Association North/South All-Star football game. She has received the Southwest Dubois academic awards all four years of high school and is on track to earn the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma.

Outside of school, Pund is a member of St. Mary Parish in Huntingburg where she is a Sunday school teacher, a server and a member of the youth group. She also has been involved in the summer musicals with the Actors Community Theatre in Jasper.

Pund plans to attend college at Illinois State University, Nromal, where she will major in theatre and minor in history.

Murphy was a member of the football and track team four years and was a member of the 2017 Football State Championship team. In addition, he was a past member of the unified track team. He also has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes all four years and currently serves as vice president. He has been a member of the concert choir and the musicals.

He helps coach youth football. He also is a member of the Central Christian Church and he plays in a local band.

Murphy plans to attend Indiana State University, Terre Haute, where he will study social studies secondary education.
