Psi Iota XiDecember 14, 2020
The monthly meeting/Christmas Party of the Zeta Mu Chapter of Psi Iota Xi was held on Dec. 8 at the Jasper Group Event Room. The tables were decorated with green tablecloths and rustic holiday centerpieces. Favors of holiday mugs filled with goodies were set at each socially-distanced seat.
The business meeting was called to order at 6:30 by President Ginger Hedinger with the reciting of the Opening Verse. Before the business part of the meeting began, members played a guess-your-Christmas-character mixer game. In lieu of roll call, which was handled via a sign-in sheet, members each shared their favorite Christmas song. Thirteen members were present. Leisa Lowrey acted as secretary in the absence of Patty Boeglin.
President Ginger Hedinger read the single item of correspondence: A letter from Indiana State Nominating Committee Chairman Brenda Fischer of LaGrange, Indiana, soliciting nominations for State Association Offices.
Ways and Means Chairman Marci Backer gleefully announced that all of the extra nuts have been sold. She encouraged members to turn in any outstanding money. In January, we will receive a small rebate check from Terri Lynn Fundraising for increasing our sales over our 2019 sales.
The members of the February Fling Committee; Pauline Vonderheide, Patty Cox, and Sharon Cox, announced that they will deliver a formal invitation to the event at the next meeting.
Ginger Hedinger reminded us that Lunch Bunch will resume in January, with Paula Marshall hosting.
The next meeting will be on Jan. 12, 2021, at the Jasper Group Event Room, at 6:30. Following the meeting, we will hold an informal “Archives, Memories and Memorabilia Party,” at which members are invited to bring any Psi Ote pictures, files, committee materials, souvenirs, etc. to share, sort, save or purge, as appropriate. Members are encouraged to invite alumnae members or past officers who may have items to share.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned with the reciting of the Closing Verse. The Christmas party, chaired by Pam Jarboe and Ruth Jarboe, immediately followed the business meeting.
Leisa Lowrey led the members in grace, before a delicious pork loin dinner was served. After dinner and dessert, Lynn Arthur led a very challenging Christmas Trivia Game, won by the team of Pauline Vonderheide, Sharon Cox, and Ruth Jarboe. Leisa Lowrey facilitated a cooperative “A Visit from Saint Nicholas” Mad-Libs Game, with Nan Mehringer receiving the accolades for craziest words. Patty Cox, Pam Jarboe, Pauline Vonderheide, Lynn Maitlen, Leisa Lowrey and Joetta Jones won centerpieces or gift cards as door prizes.
Pam Jarboe thanked everyone for attending and for bringing donations of cash, socks, hats, gloves, scarves and gently used books for the Dubois County Community Correction Center.
Anyone interested in joining the Zeta Mu chapter can contact any member or the President, Ginger Hedinger at 812-630-2495 or Lynn Arthur at 765-748-3138. Local fund raisers support our Language and Literacy Camp held each summer in the month of June, a college scholarship, Jasper Community Arts as well as other community projects. The main mission of the Psi Ota Xi sorority is promoting art, music, literature and speech and hearing.
