Process center to add Saturday hoursAugust 20, 2019

Next year, the Dubois County Solid Waste Management District’s process center will try out being open on a Saturday once a month.
Members of the solid waste district board have wanted to have Saturday hours for the convenience of residents who clean when they have time off.
The 2020 budget, which is expected to be approved by the Dubois County Council, will have enough funding to have the center open one Saturday a month between March and October. It would be open from 8 a.m. to noon on the Saturday; which Saturday of the month would work best has not yet been set.
Director Carla Striegel–Winner said March through October are the busiest months for the center.
“This started with people cleaning up their properties on Saturday morning,” board President Elmer Brames said. “That tends to happen more so in the spring and fall, not winter.”
Having additional hours during the winter months would be a challenge, Striegel–Winner said. “It’s hard enough getting (the center) open (during regular hours) when we have winter weather,” she said.
The center’s regular hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Board member Chad Blessinger was concerned that the Saturday hours will not be held every month. “But if we do it for the [eight] months, we will know if it’s being used,” he said. “So it’s a good start.”
