Several local cross country teams were in action recently, as well as the Jasper boys tennis and girls soccer teams. Here’s a brief rundown of what you might have missed.

Cross Country

A. VanMeter

Jasper takes first, second in invite: Jasper, Southridge and Northeast Dubois traveled to Montgomery on Tuesday to compete in the Barr-Reeve Invitational.

On the boys side, Jasper placed first with 62 points, while Northeast Dubois was eighth (227) and Southridge was 10th (257). For the girls, Barr-Reeve finished first with 29, while Jasper placed second with 71. The Raiders were eighth with 229, while the Jeeps didn’t have enough runners for a team score.

For the boys, Jasper took first and second overall, with Jackson Miller (16:25) taking home first place and Drew O’Neil (16:28) placing second. Nathan Schnell placed sixth (17:14) for Northeast Dubois, while Cam Giles (18:40) was the highest finishing Raider at 31st.

For the girls, Jasper’s Andi VanMeter placed third (20:07), while Shelby Livingston was seventh (21:15) for the Jeeps. Southridge’s highest finisher was Brooklyn Tretter, who placed 31st with a time of 23:35.

Girls Soccer
Knights 6, Wildcats 1: In a tough matchup, Castle defeated Jasper at home on Wednesday evening.

The Cats trailed 3-1 at halftime, but the Knights were able to get three more goals in the second half to stretch their lead. Jasper’s lone goal was scored by Regan Mundy, as her 15th goal of the year put the Cats on the board just nine minutes into the match.



Wildcats 5, Alices 0: The Jasper boys tennis team was dominant over Vincennes Lincoln to remain undefeated in Big Eight conference play.

Victorious for Jasper were Eli Franks (No. 1 singles), Michael Kluemper (No. 2 singles), Max Sternberg (No. 3 singles), Mitch Kluemper/Bennett Schmitt (No. 1 doubles) and Jobe Luebbehusen/Grant Stratton (No. 2 doubles).
