Prep sports wrap: 10/2October 1, 2018

Boys soccer sectionals are up and running and one local tennis team advanced to the regional championship match. Here’s a brief rundown of Monday night’s prep sports action.
Boys Soccer Sectional
Raiders 5, Alices 0: The Southridge boys soccer team opened their postseason play with a 5-0 shutout over Vincennes Lincoln on Monday evening in Fort Branch.
Jonathan Escobar scored two goals for the Raiders while Jorge Soto, Jeovany Dubon and Deng Akoon added one each. Soto finished with two assists while Escobar and Lucas Martinez both finished with one. Pedro Rivera recorded five saves.
With the victory, the Raiders advance to the semifinal round where they’ll face Class 2A No. 2 Washington. The Hatchets defeated Southridge in the sectional championship match last season, 6-2.
Boys Tennis Regional
Wildcats 5, Patriots 0: The Jasper boys tennis team advanced to the regional championship after sweeping Vincennes Rivet in the semifinal round on Monday afternoon.
The Wildcats will play the winner of Loogootee and Bloomfield on Wednesday for the championship. Jasper is searching for their eighth straight regional title.
Schnell takes first for Jeeps: The Northeast Dubois boys and girls traveled to Montgomery for the Blue Chip Conference meet.
Nathan Schnell placed first overall for the boys with a time of 16:48 while the team finished third with 61 points. The girls placed fourth overall with 94 points while Shelby Livingston placed sixth with a time of 20:51.
Wildcats 3, Rangers 0: The Jasper volleyball team cruised past county foe Forest Park at home on Monday evening, 25-19, 25-12, 25-11.
Stat leaders for the Wildcats were Natalie Wigand (37 assists, five aces), Riley Merder (12 kills), Reagan Egbert (10 kills, 11 digs), Meredith Hilgefort (12 digs, nine kills) and Rylee Hedinger (16 digs).
Forest Park’s stat leaders were Faith Zazzetti (three kills), Kylie Giesler (eight assists, five aces, four blocks) and Macie Zink (14 digs).
Titans 3, Raiders 0: The Southridge volleyball team fell to a tough Gibson Southern team in straight sets at Huntingburg on Monday evening, 25-11, 25-21, 25-13.
Stat leaders for Southridge were Anna Altstadt (seven kills, two blocks), Savannah Goeppner (12 assists), Amanda Brewer (nine digs) and Tatiana Delgado (nine digs, two aces).
Jeeps 3, Chargers 0: Northeast Dubois breezed their way to a clean sweep past Pike Central on Monday in Dubois, 25-8, 25-8, 25-7.
Leading the way for the Jeeps was Molly Lueken (eight kills), Taylor Dodd (seven kills, 11 digs, five aces), Chloe Terwiske (seven kills, 17 assists), Kendyl Heeke (18 assists), AJ Kirchoff (11 digs) and Brooklyn Dodd (11 digs, reached 1,000 career digs in the victory).
