Mia Carson of Santa Claus, 12, took part in a pound fitness class with drumsticks during the Diabetes Discovery Camp at the Tri-County YMCA in Ferdinand on Saturday. Mia, along with 10 other children with Type 1 diabetes and their families, participated in the camp hosted by the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. The day included speakers, crafts and the opportunity for parents to connect. “It’s a day for children with diabetes,” said camp organizer Janet Meyer of Jasper. “It’s one day that they don’t have to be different than other children.”

Rylan Swartzentruber of Montgomery, 5, followed along during Saturday’s pound fitness class at the Diabetes Discovery Camp. Rylan's sister Megan, 9, has Type 1 diabetes.

Matthew Jennings of Gentryville helped his son Gage, 6, keep up with instructor Brandi King of Hayesville during a pound fitness class with drumsticks at the Tri-County YMCA on Saturday. Gage has Type 1 diabetes and said he was having a good time at the camp.
