BEDFORD — As has often been observed, a stellar record for the season doesn’t matter much during postseason play.

Such was the case Saturday for Northeast Dubois tennis players in regional play.

Reece Bauer, who had an eye-popping 22-3 record after winning a sectional championship, managed to win only one set in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Evansville Day’s Braedon Christie. Christie then blitzed Nick Shirley of Bloomington North, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to this weekend’s state tournament.

Then in doubles, Ethan Ziegler and Luke Harder entered regional play having won 20 of their 23 matches for the season. But that mattered little for Kunhae Shah and Ethan White of Castle. Ziegler and Harder were eliminated from postseason play by a 6-2, 7-6 score. Shah and White then defeated Austin Tyree and Zach Needler of South Cental (Elizabeth), 6-0, 6-0, to punch their ticket to this weekend’s state tournament.

Although the Jeeps lost in sectionals as a team, Bauer, Ziegler and Harder advanced as individuals because they were undefeated in postseason play when the team lost.
