JASPER — Jasper American Legion Post 147 of Jasper announces the attendees of the recent Hoosier Boys State Program conducted at Trine University in Angola from June 16 through 21.
Students attending from Jasper High School were Carson
Park, Cameron Mehringer, Avery Hollinden, Nathan Mehringer, Jason Mair, Lucas Harder, Kadon Hurm and Quentin Harmon.
Students attending from Northeast Dubois High School were Austin Palmer, Trenton Harrison, Dalton Lampert and Jared Young.
The number of attendees from the Jasper American Legion Post 147 was the largest number of delegates from the Department of Indiana.
The campus of the university is well equipped to care for the over 500 young men who attend Hoosier Boys State each year, with state-of-art housing facilities, a local hospital, athletic facilities, and more.
The American Legion Boys State is a nationwide program providing young men the opportunity to immerse themselves in a week of theory, organizational experience and practical application of the democratic process and form of government.
During the week-long experience, more than 500 high school juniors learned the basic fundamentals, structure and operation of goverment, from city to state levels and then conducted a mock election and operated the executive, legislative and juiscial branches of Hoosier Boys State.
Approximately $13,000 in college scholarships was awarded to Hoosier Boys State citizens at last year’s Hoosier Boys State Session. The McHale, Kossa, and Samsung Scholarships are awarded to citizens based on their academic, social, and Boys State activities and performance.
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Boys State Delegate who excelled during his stay at Trine University. Each delegate has been provided a scholarship application which is due by Sept. 1. The recipient will receive his scholarship during his school’s senior awards day in 2020.
