With help from virtual reality headsets and Google Expeditions, seventh-graders at the Holy Trinity Catholic School East Campus in Jasper traveled to the other side of the globe to see the Great Wall of China, all from the comfort of their classroom. Phil Clauss, the technology director for the Pike County School Corporation and a Holy Trinity parent, led the classes through their first time using the virtual experience. Seventh-graders Braydon Sermersheim, from left, Nathan Ramirez, Martin Fallon, Wyatt Troutman and Libby Mehringer looked at different portions of the Great Wall. “You know we’re not taking field trips to China,” social studies teacher Jon Temple said to the class. “So this is a good way for you to see what we’re studying.”

Clauss led the classes through their first time using the headsets and read facts about the Great Wall while seventh-graders Braydon Sermersheim, left, Matthew Sternberg and Libby Mehringer looked around.

Seventh-graders Rachel Mehringer, left, and Grace Bartley used the VR headsets to view different sections of the Great Wall.

Seventh-grader Sam Hollinden took in all of sights along the Great Wall while Clauss read the class facts and information about the wall.
