Police work Mentor-area property-damage crash

From Local Sources

MENTOR — No injuries were reported after a property-damage mishap Friday morning involving a car and a pickup truck just east of Mentor.

Jacob L. Buchanan, 41, Taswell, was westbound on State Road 64 in a 2002 Ford F-150 at the time of the 5:45 a.m. mishap at County Road 1025E, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy said Buchanan’s truck encountered a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro that did not yield the right of way as it attempted to turn from the county road onto the highway to go west.

Blake R. Hill, 29, Birdseye, who was driving the Camaro, told a deputy he braked hard to avoid a collision and his car slid out of control. The Camaro struck a guardrail, spun and stopped after hitting the guardrail a second time.

Buchanan drove off the highway to the right to avoid a collision, which resulted in passenger-side front damage to his Ford.

The two vehicles did not hit each other, the deputy said.

Total damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

A deputy cited Hill for failure to yield the right of way.
