The Jasper Police Department fielded a report from Rural King, 1920 Lube Way, stating a man had walked into the store barefoot and walked out later wearing a pair of boots.

The suspect was caught on video surveillance, allowing still pictures to be sent to the media requesting the public’s assistance identifying him.

After receiving several calls regarding his identity, police said, Darrel R. Harris Jr., 27, 1106 N. Chestnut St., Huntingburg, was located at his place of employment and was taken into custody.

Police allege Harris stole a pair of Keene boots and a pair of socks valued at $186.

Authorities booked Harris into the Dubois County Security Center at 5:32 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of theft.

Jasper police thanked the public for the assistance in identifying the suspect in a media release on the arrest.

Police released this image from video surveillance footage on Tuesday to aid in identifying the subject.
