September 29, 2020By The Associated Press
GARY — Police in Gary shot and wounded a man early Sunday after seeing him shoot and kill another man, a spokeswoman said.
Officers responding to a report of gunfire about 2:30 a.m. were dispersing a crowd outside a night club when they heard more gunfire, Gary police spokeswoman Dawn Westerfield said.
The officers then saw a gunman shooting at a man on the ground, at which point the officers opened fire and struck the gunman in a leg, Westerfield said. The gunman then fired at the officers, but didn’t strike anyone.
The gunman was taken to a hospital, where he was stabilized, Westerfield said.
The man on the ground, a 28-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
No charges have been announced.
