LOOGOOTEE — Authorities will seek to amend a Washington man’s neglect charge after the death Friday of a 1-month-old male infant.
Indiana State Police allege that on Tuesday, Bobby Leighty, 26, Washington, was the caretaker of 1-month-old Kyson Jones, Loogootee, when the infant became unresponsive sometime after noon. Leighty contacted family members who arrived at the residence a short time later, police report.
The family members contacted 911 due to Kyson still being unresponsive, according to authorities.
Kyson was initially transported to the Daviess Community Hospital before being transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis via helicopter, where he remained until Friday.
State police say Kyson was removed from life support and pronounced deceased Friday.
Leighty was initially arrested and incarcerated at the Martin County Jail on a Level 3 felony count of neglect causing serious bodily injury.
Police investigators say they will present additional evidence to the Martin County Prosecutor’s Office in efforts to amend Leighty’s charge to a Level 1 felony count of neglect resulting in death, plus any other applicable charges.
