JASPER — A Jasper man faces criminal recklessness charges after a 9mm pistol he was showing to another man "accidentally discharged" and shot the other man in the leg.
Around 7:22 a.m. Tuesday, the Jasper Police Department received a call for assistance at 1715 Greene Street #8 for a male with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim is identified as Douglas Hernandez, 44, of the same address.
It was determined that another male at the residence, Bereket Cox, 21, of the same address, was showing Hernandez his 9mm pistol when it "accidentally discharged," according to police.
Hernandez sustained leg injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
Cox was charged with criminal recklessness with a firearm, a Level 6 felony, and was released to appear in Dubois Circuit Court.
