OAKTOWN — Indiana State Police are investigating a double shooting in northern Knox County that left a woman deceased and a man seriously injured.
The shooting at 3386 E. Cardinal Road, Oaktown, was discovered Wednesday evening after a family member requested a welfare check on the residence’s occupants, according to police.
State police troopers and Knox County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived on Cardinal Road at 7:50 p.m. to find Sharon M. Patton, 56, deceased inside the residence and Roger S. Darrough, 63, seriously injured in the attached garage.
Darrough and Patton resided together at the residence, police said.
Darrough was still being treated at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville today, according to police. He had initially been transported to Good Samaritan Hospital near the scene but was later airlifted to the Vanderburgh County facility.
Early in the investigation, state police detectives said they do not believe anyone else was involved in this shooting. The community is not in danger, they added early today.
Police say the incident is an ongoing investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Oaktown is north of Vincennes on U.S. 150.
