June 2, 2020From Local Sources
JASPER — The Jasper Police Department is asking for the public’s help as officers investigate recent vandalism, including overnight acts at the Hometown IGA and Walmart Supercenter.
The vandalism has involved buildings, sidewalks, signs and benches defaced with spray painted messages related to George Floyd’s death and the resulting nationwide protests.
Police took a report of graffiti spray painted on items at the 15th Street entrance to the Riverwalk on Thursday evening. Then, at 2:15 a.m. today, there was a report of graffiti spray painted at Walmart. Messages were discovered spray painted on the Hometown IGA after that and, this morning, additional Riverwalk graffiti was found near the Third Avenue Bridge.
Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call Jasper police at 812-482-2255 or the department’s anonymous tip line: 812-481-COPS (2677).
