JASPER — Police arrested a Huntingburg man after a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Jasper’s north side.
The Jasper Police Department was notified of the crash in the 2300 block of Cathy Lane at 9 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located Peter N. Lemond, 53, 805 N. Washington St., Huntingburg, in the driver’s seat of his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. Police said he was attempting to huff vapors from a can of compressed air.
After speaking with Lemond, police said he admitted to huffing compressed air prior to the accident.
The huffing caused Lemond to lose consciousness and veer off the roadway. His truck struck a utility pole’s guy wires, snapping the pole in half.
Lemond was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for a chemical test blood draw.
Police said a routine license check found that Lemond’s driver’s license was suspended.
Authorities booked Lemond into the Dubois County Security Center at 11:46 a.m. on preliminary charges of misdemeanor operating while intoxicated and driving while suspended (prior).
Jasper Municipal Utilities and a Bob Luegers Motors wrecker assisted.
