Police ID driver in power-outage crashJanuary 2, 2020
From Local Sources
JASPER — Tips from the public are being credited for helping police identify the driver in a December vehicle-versus-pole crash that knocked out power and snarled traffic.
The accident was reported at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at State Road 164 and Jasper-Dubois Road. The resulting power outage lasted until 7:25 a.m.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office says anonymous tips led the investigating deputy to identify Derek Breitweiser, 29, of Cuzco Road North, French Lick, as the driver of a 2017 GMC 2500 series pickup involved in the accident.
Breitweiser has been summonsed to appear in court on a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a social media posting, the sheriff’s office said deputies appreciated all of the help involved in getting the incident solved.
