Police arrest man with explosive devices

ROCKPORT — A tip involving drug activity allowed the Rockport Police Department to make an arrest Friday involving multiple preliminary charges, including possession of explosive devices.

Rockport police went to the residence at the center of the tip, and after receiving consent to search, found an open box containing several explosive devices.

At that time, Rockport police report, assistance was sought from the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal team. EOD team members determined police were dealing with destructive devices and took the items into their possession.

After an investigation, police said, a resident at the property, Jesse Chancellor, was arrested and preliminarily charged with Level 5 felony possession of a destructive device (22 counts), Level 6 felony neglect of a dependent child (four counts), criminal recklessness and possession of hash oil (more than 5 grams), plus misdemeanor possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

Chancellor was lodged in the Spencer County Law Enforcement Center on a $30,000 cash-only bond.

Police noted all suspects are to be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
